Our Podcasts
We have created a series of podcasts, sharing our experience of Thomas’ last few months of life. We share short episodes discussing issues such as finding out that Thomas was not going to get better, what practical support we needed, decisions about care and talking to Thomas and his siblings about dying.
Ep. 1 How long have I got left with my child?
In this episode we talk about the moment we found out that Thomas wasn’t going to get better. We talk about how difficult that conversation was but why it helped us having some idea of time left.
Ep. 2 Our first few months after finding out Thomas was dying
In this episode we talk about how we navigated the first few months after we found out that Thomas was dying. We talk about what Thomas managed to achieve but also how he changed physically. We talk about our journey as parents, our worries and our strategies for coping during these months.
Ep. 3 The last 2 months of Thomas’ life
In this episode we talk about how we coped with the last 2 months of Thomas’ life. We talk about the practicalities of this time, syringe drivers, visiting family and friends and the parallels of this time with having a newborn.
Ep. 4 Big decisions about Thomas’ care
In this episode we talk about how we came to make difficult decisions about Thomas’ care and what gave us confidence in making these decisions. We talk about how we were led by Thomas and how we involved palliative care at different stages.
Ep. 5 Involving palliative care
In this episode we talk about involving palliative care, what this meant for Thomas and us.
Ep. 6 Telling Thomas he was dying
In this episode we talk about how we talked to Thomas about dying. We talk about about resources we found useful but how you had to individualise it to your situation.
Ep. 7 Thomas dies
In this episode we talk about those last few days and hours of Thomas’ life.
